Interform 2023 (Summer ☀️)

On Thursday 13th July, people in year 9 had an interform competition. Interform is when people from different forms (classes) come together in school to compete in a sport, basically a tournament between classes. At my school, we have 2 interforms altogether in the year; one in the winter and one in the summer. In the winter, we do the sports netball and hockey. In the summer, it's badminton, tennis and rounders. This year, I competed in netball and hockey in winter (unfortunately it got cancelled because of the rain 🌧) and I chose to compete in badminton and rounders.  When forms pick their teams, people can choose to either be in the 'A' group or the 'B' group. The 'A' group is generally where the most talented individuals compete and it is a lot more competitive whereas the 'B' group is a little more relaxed. I competed in the 'A' group for both sports. So, on Thursday, the first two sports going on at the same time were Badminton and Ten...

Year 9 FAMELAB Acadamy 2023

A few months ago, I joined a club called FAMELAB which ran every Wednesday lunchtime. The club was about writing and performing a speech on something to do with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). There were (I think) 11 participants in total but a few people dropped out before. Closer to the end of the year we had to say the speech in front of the whole year 9 (and some teachers as judges) for a competition. In the first few sessions we went through the criteria that the judges use when assessing the speech. The 3 main things were the three 'C's: Content, Clarity and Charisma. Content:  his is what you will talk about so it has to be interesting and fun to talk about. This is topic of your talk. It also has to relate back to STEM. Clarity: Clarity is very important within the speech. It must be understandable for the audience so it can't use too much sciencey jargon (fancy language that not everybody understands). The way you explain things is essential to c...

London Spring Term holiday: Day 2

Image
On the second day, we did a lot of things! Waking up early in the morning to set off by car, We did what we originally came for: to create my baby sister's passport in the morning. It took quite a bit of time because Aila had to get her passport photo taken as well. And then we had to wait 3 hours to collect it from the Malaysian embassy.  I loved the architecture of the embassies, it would be really nice to draw. We saw quite a few different flags and we played a guessing game of who could guess it correctly first, what fun! As we were fasting, we didn't have lunch but we explored more of central London! It was a lot of fun and I remember getting one of my favorite drinks from a shop nearby. I really liked the location  of where we were staying and I slept quite comfortably that night 🌙...
